Sculptures
Sculpting is like sugar to me, easy to pick up and deeply satisfying. My formal studies in ceramics and sculpture shaped my approach, but the practical jobs I’ve held advanced my technical foundation. Working as an artist’s assistant, florist, furniture repairer, yarn dyer, ceramic studio tech, at an art supply store, and interning at a Wax Museum, taught me problem solving and studio discipline. Those experiences strengthened my sense of structure and exposed me to an abundance of materials and tools. Those roles made me comfortable moving across mediums and improvising when a piece needs it.
Lately I’ve been drawn to paper mâché and found objects for their immediacy and rawness. I like how quickly forms emerge and how a found or ready -made object can spark an idea. When the space allows, I’m eager to create larger works and surrounding installations that viewers can move through and around, letting sculpture and surroundings fold into one another. I’m interested in how material, scale, and the choreography of space can be altered, inviting a physical, intimate encounter between the viewer and the work.
